Our attention spans are dwindling.

We’re constantly excited about what’s beyond the next swipe.

Slow media like terrestrial TV and books struggle to hold our focus.

Anyway, I’ll get to the point before I lose you.

I’ve (Rikki) been trying to watch YouTube Shorts daily over the past few weeks to stop me fainting while I’m being injected with blood thinners (I tore my achilles tendon).

The problem is the content gets pretty repetitive, there’s quite a bit of spam, and it doesn’t compare to TikTok, Instagram Reels or Snapchat Spotlight.

That could change very quickly as YouTube announced a quick method for creators to build shorts from their long-form videos. Would they bother if shorts haven’t really had the impact expected? Well there’s added incentive as these shorts would automatically link back to the original long-form content.

I’ve got a few more weeks of injections so I’ll let you know if I notice a shift!
